Nicely told story ... my only gripe is that it isn't a Fairy Tale coming true, but a Romance Novel Cover coming to Real Life.

I know a one-time officer who is this good hearted .... and he has a romance story like this that took him through the last 20 or so of his 25 years on a force. And continues in his retirement from being an officer and through a couple of other jobs where he got his chance to help peoplel .

Actually, one hopefully-minor quibble. The little epilog places the story as "a little over thirty-one years ago", At that time, cell phones weren't taken for granted, and I don't think smartphones or similar devices were even around. That may be my bad memory, but for sure most people (and especially most kids!) didn't automatically go to those rather than to printed books to read! (I was late even getting a cell phone; I finally got one when I had to be on an extended trip and wanted to be able to call home. My cell phone is still a flip phone, and we still have a landline.)
